Safety Tip: Wear Life Vests on the Water
Always wear a life vest when enjoying time on the water. Even experienced swimmers should always wear a personal flotation device (PFD).
Firefighters have noted individuals floating through the Valley on the Spokane River using inflatables designed for pools. Several have been rescued from the river when their non-sturdy inflatable popped or folded in the rapids. And, no one was wearing a life vest.
Loaner life vests (pictured) are often available at trailheads along the Centennial Trail near the Spokane River.
The fine for not wearing a personal flotation device in Spokane County is $76 – tickets are written by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
