SPOKANE VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS CONDUCT TRAINING AT A UNIQUE LOCATION
***********************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Firefighters are training at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church this week. The opportunity to conduct fire suppression training in a working environment offers unique application to real life incident calls. The Church donated the building to SVFD for use this week on fire suppression training.
The structure used is on the lot behind the church. They cannot tear or burn the facility down as it contains asbestos. Crews did not use actual fire but rather had a smoke machine inside the structure.
Pastor Jim Plunkitt has invited SVFD to use the structure for training for the past couple of years.
“I have an older congregation that utilizes the 911 system fairly frequently for EMS calls,” said Pastor Jim. “We are impressed by how the SVFD crews treat them with compassion and respect and are very gentle with all of them.”
Because of this, they feel a great sense of gratitude to the department and feel like this is one way they can give back and be a good community partner.
“When a business owner or community member donates a structure for training purposes, it provides an invaluable opportunity to use real skills and techniques in structures that are outside our standard building types,” said Spokane Valley Fire Deputy Chief, Shawn Arold. “This is a great space for our Firefighters to gain some unique insights in application with their fire suppression training this week.”
SVFD Firefighters will train through Friday, September 20 at this location.
Pastor Jim was thrilled to have the SVFD training at his facility and has a banner outside of the Church saying, “Thank you Spokane Valley Firefighters!”
