SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE RESPONDS TO THIRD WORKING FIRE IN SIX DAYS
**********************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) units were dispatched at 1:51 p.m. for a report of a Duplex on fire in the 11000 block of East Boone Avenue. People at the church located next door to the duplex and other neighbors saw the fire start and called it in. The fire caused damage to both sides of the duplex displacing 4 adults, 1 child, 1 dog, and 1 cat. Red Cross was called in to help with the families.
The back porch of a 2-story duplex had caught on fire and was spreading into the interior. Crews arrived within minutes of being dispatched to find heavy smoke and fire. The fire was quickly declared a working fire, which brings additional preplanned resources, and an offensive attack strategy was deployed. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and then work to put out any lingering hotspots.
Valley 31 (V31) arrived and was assigned to Safety. He did a 360 of the duplex and once completed, established safety continuing to report conditions to the Battalion Chief assigned to Boone incident command.
Response included two Battalion Chiefs (V21 and V22), 1 Safety Officer (V31), 1 Fire Investigator (V41), Valley Ladder 8, Valley Engines 1, 5, 6, and 9, mutual and auto aid from Spokane County Fire District 8 (E84), Spokane County Fire District 9 (E94), and City of Spokane Fire (SE14), SQ11, V71, SP101, SVFD Chaplain, 1 PIO (V16), AMR, and Modern utilities.
This was the third working fire SVFD C shift has been called to in 6 days. No injuries were reported to firefighters during suppression operations.
The cause of this fire and the North Best fire continue to be under investigation. We continue to urge our community to practice winter fire safety and to make sure smoke alarms are in working condition. Test them regularly and make sure they have not expired.
