SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE RESPONDS TO GARAGE FIRE WITH A POTENTIAL MISSING CHILD
******************************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) responded August 24, 5:07 p.m. to the report of a detached garage fire with a child possibly missing.
The initial crews quickly discovered that the missing child had been found.
Apparatus from Spokane Valley Fire Department, aided by Spokane Fire Department, responded to the fire. The call was upgraded to a working fire by fire companies enroute due to a large column of smoke in the area. On arrival, Valley Rescue 8 and Valley Ladder 8 found a fully involved small garage. The fire was extending to the residence, exposing several vehicles and overhead powerlines.
Crews extended a hose line to the garage to knock down the fire while protecting the house. Unfortunately the fire had extended into the attic of the residence which made it necessary to pull ceiling throughout the home to ensure the fire was out.
In all 29 personnel, staffing 8 fire apparatus, 2 command staff, 1 safety officer, and an investigator responded to the incident. Other support agencies include American Medical Response, Avista Electric and Gas, and Capstone who secured the property.
Red Cross is assisting the family with short term housing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Spokane Valley Fire encourages everyone to have working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan, “including a meet up area,” that the entire family knows and practices.
