SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE PROMOTES CRR WEEK JAN 18-24
CRR PRACTICES PRIORITIZE FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY RISKS WITHIN COMMUNITY
**********************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) is joining safety professionals across the nation to promote the 2nd Annual Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week. The cities within the SVFD Fire District including City of Liberty Lake, City of Spokane Valley, and City of Millwood have all signed and read proclamations at City Council meetings declaring the week of January 18 – 24, CRR Week.
The goal of CRR is to build healthy, safe, and resilient communities by educating individuals about the important actions they can take to keep themselves and their families safe and prepared before an emergency occurs.
“Spokane Valley Fire before COVID occurred would regularly perform smoke alarm blitzes throughout our community in high-risk areas,” said SVFD Fire Marshal, Greg Rogers. “Those blitzes yielded 11 lives saved when smoke alarms installed through these blitzes alerted families of a fire in their home. This is what CRR is about. Educating our citizens and making our community a safer and healthier place to live.”
CRR is a data-driven process that identifies and prioritizes fire and life safety risks, then strategically invests resources to reduce their occurrence and impact.
Data submitted to the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) from fire departments in Washington State shows there were more than 23,400 fire incidents reported in 2019, resulting in 54 fire fatalities and an estimated $220 million in property damage throughout the State.
Spokane Valley Fire Department is committed to protecting the citizens of Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Millwood, Otis Orchards, and Greenacres and their property in collaboration with the fire service and other public safety professionals through CRR efforts.
