SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE HOSTING FB LIVE SERIES
FIRE SCIENCE FRIDAY WITH FIREFIGHTER RICK FREIER
***********************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) Firefighter Rick Freier, AKA “The Fire Science Guy,” will be hosting a five part Spokane Valley Fire Facebook live series for kids. The first show aired this morning. Firefighter Freier will explore the laws of thermal dynamics, fire behavior, and chemistry. His old partner Mako (a trained fire dog), the accelerant detection canine might make a guest appearance Friday, April 10. Mako has gone through an incredible intense fire training course which took over a year to complete to be able to be certified as a “fire industry canine.”
As we continue with Social Distancing through May 4, Firefighter Freier wanted kids to have another venue for learning. The goal of the class will be to show how exciting science can be and how it can be used in a career.
We will present the Fire Triangle/Tetrahedron, the process of pyrolysis, vapor density, energy transfer, the states of matter, and may other science related topics over the course of 5 weeks. We might even bring Sir Isaac Newton into the conversation.
Today, we aired, What is fire?
Friday – April 10, What is fuel?
Friday – April 17, What is heat?
Friday – April 24, Why does fire need Oxygen? What is heat?
Friday – May 1, Living with fire.
Hope you will join us!
