PREPARING FOR WILDLAND FIRE SEASON
Summer has arrived and it’s hot and dry outside!
Spokane Valley Fire Department Fire Chief, Bryan Collins and Assistant Fire Marshal, Brett Anderson have some recommendations to help keep your home and fire safe should a fire occur here in our community.
And, Remember, area Fire Marshals have enacted Burn Restrictions County wide. We are seeing wildland fire popping up all around us. Spokane Valley Fire crews have been mobed to several wildland fires throughout the Inland Northwest including to Oregon.
We are hopeful our community will follow the burn restrictions and help us keep this community and their homes free from the fire and smoke risk that can easily occur with the current conditions we are experiencing.
Here are some ways to reduce the risk of wildfires:
- Refer to this Wildfire Prevention information from WA DNR regarding recreational land use, campfires, and home landscaping during dry conditions.
- Cigarettes should be fully extinguished and disposed of in approved ashtrays.
- Fireworks are banned in Spokane County and on Washington public lands.
- Keep matches or lighters away from children and talk to them about fire safety.
- Note: Report wildland fires by calling 911.
