16 New Recruits Enter SVFD’s New EMT Basic School

On April 17th, 16 new SVFD recruits began EMT School. They will participate in 6 weeks of class, learning the ins-and-outs of EMS and then proceed immediately to their 18-week Fire Academy. By the time they hit the streets, they will have completed 24 straight weeks of training provided exclusively by Spokane Valley Fire instructors. This is the first time SFVD has offered an internal EMT school to new hires. This allows SFVD to provide specialized training to our firefighters that is relevant to the communities we serve. Additionally, the establishment of an internal EMS Lab allows our department to provide continued emergency medical training to all SVFD personnel. All of our firefighters are trained at least as EMTs and many are paramedics.
