MEET SVFD NEW FIREFIGHTER, ROWAN MCLOONE
SVFD has hired 14 new Firefighters to the SVFD Team. Recruit training began Tuesday, September 3 at the Fire Training Center and will run for 15 weeks.
Meet Rowan McLoone, one of our new recruits!
Rowan is another one of our new Firefighters with an interesting educational background. He has a BA in Music from Loyola Marymount University! He also attended UCLA for his Paramedic training. It’s no wonder with a music degree he has a unique talent as a Great Highland Bagpiper. Well done!
Rowan spent 9 years in EMS. Four of those years were as an EMT and five of those years were as a Paramedic. He also spent a year as a volunteer Firefighter. He has training and certification in FF1, Hazmat Ops, as a Paramedic, and in Wildland type 2 Fires.
His training, professional background, and his talent as a Great Highland Bagpiper make him well qualified to be a Firefighter for the SVFD.
In his personal life he loves rope rescue, wood working, and carpentry.
This week Rowan will bone up on his Hazmat skills. Week 10 of the training academy includes more studying of Hazmat Ops. In fact, there are 7 more chapters to be read and quizzed on regarding Hazmat Ops. SVFD responds to many Hazmat calls each week. This training will become a strong skillset for Rowan and his future as an SVFD Firefighter.
All recruits will have to pass multiple exams throughout the training on skills learned. After graduation, crews will be rotated through different station assignments and will be on probation for 1 year.
We welcome Rowan and wish him a very successful academy. Only 5 more weeks to go Rowan!
