HOUSE FIRE ON CATALDO IN SPOKANE VALLEY
***********************************************
Spokane Valley, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded at 1:34 AM July 24, 2019 to a house fire in the 8500 block of East Cataldo Ave. The male resident of the home went to a neighbor’s house and asked him to call 911 because his house was on fire. The caller reported the fire was in the attic in the home owner was trying to put it out.
This was the second house fire that Valley units responded to in four hours. Valley 21 was the first to arrive and he set up command. Engine 6 and Engine 1 arrived next and went to work. Firefighting operations were hampered because of a downed power line and the seat of the fire being located in the attic. Several access holes were cut in the roof so Fire crews could make sure the fire was out. No injuries were reported.
The downed power line was caused by a tree that fell during the storm. As a result, electrical wiring within the attic was damaged and caused the fire.
You should always remain indoors during thunderstorms and windstorms. These types of events are incredibly dangerous. If you see power lines down or a lightning strike near your home, stay clear of the area and call 911. A downed power line should always be treated as if it were energized.
