Firefighters Respond to 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire
**********************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) units responded around 7:15 this evening to an Apartment fire at 210 S Farr Road in the Spokane Valley.
Valley Engine 1 was the first unit on scene and found a fire on the west side of the complex with fire on the first, second and third floors. Valley Engine 1 made an aggressive fire attack with a 2.5” pre-connected fire hose and was able to slow the progression of the fire. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, bringing more personnel and equipment to the scene. Valley Ladder 8 went to the roof and performed vertical ventilation buy cutting a hole in the roof, to help improve conditions on the third floor. Additional units were assigned fire attack and search for all three floors of the complex. The fire was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes.
Six apartment units suffered damage from the fire. Red Cross responded to the scene assist residents displaced by the fire
Over 20 units responded to the scene, including automatic aid units from Spokane Fire District 8 and Spokane Fire Departments. There were no reported injuries to firefighters but two residents were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Unfortunately a dog died in the fire.
The fire originated on the third floor balcony and burning material dropped onto the second floor balcony where it spread rapidly to all three floors.
SVFD would like to remind everybody to properly dispose of smoking materials.
