FIREFIGHTERS EXTINGUISH BRUSH FIRE NEAR STATE LINE
QUICK WORK BY AREA AGENCIES HELPED KEEP THE FIRE IN CONTROL
*******************************************************
Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) firefighters were dispatched at 12:51 p.m. this afternoon for a report of a fire near the 3000 block of North Idaho Road. A 911 caller reported there was a fire in the woods near the base of the slope on the backside of Green Ridge.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was on scene first and ordered a fire plane which was called off after Firefighters on the first arriving apparatuses were able to quickly put down a perimeter wetline and preliminary scratch lines to contain and limit the fire from spreading. Crews were able to contain the fire by quickly putting in place these wildland fire practices.
Spokane Valley Fire Crews included Valley Engine 3 (VE3) from Liberty Lake, Valley Engine 4 (VE4) and Brush 4 from Otis Orchards, Ladder 10 from Greenacres, Battalion Chief in Valley 21 and a Safety Officer in Valley 31. DNR had an additional 3 Engines, an Investigator, and a Supervisor on scene. Kootenai Fire sent Engine12.
The brush fire is 100% contained and DNR is investigating the cause of the fire at this time.
There were no injuries reported to civilians or firefighters. No homes were threatened. The size of the fire is estimated to have been approximately 1/4 to 1/2 acre in size.
Spokane Valley Fire Department would like to remind our citizens that a burn ban remains in effect in Spokane County and that unauthorized open burning and recreational fires are restricted. If you have any questions, before lighting any fire, call your local agency first.
