Lower water levels can be misleading in that the water appears safer. It is not.
This year, we have seen some very impactful moments for families and for our EMS crews.
Water safety is an important topic in our area where there are lakes, rivers, hot temperatures, and a lot of outdoor recreating, especially this year.
We urge our parents to put life jackets on your children. It only takes a second to look away for a young child to get away from your line of sight. These are life changing moments for everyone.
Practice water safety. Wear life jackets, limit alcohol intake, be aware at all times around water and water vehicles such as boats, jet skis, and other motor vehicles.
On rivers, be aware of currents and temperature of not only the water but the heat as well.
Keep everyone hydrated and apply sunscreen frequently.
