Call for Pro and Con Committee to Review Levy

PUBLIC NOTICE: Spokane Valley Fire Department Calls for Pro & Con Committee Members to review Maintenance & Operations Excess Levy Resolution

The Fire District is accepting names of people interested in participating in voter pamphlet statement pro and con committees. Citizens interested in participating, please email LevyCommittee@spokanevalleyfire.com by December 7, 2022.

About the Maintenance & Operations Excess Levy

If approved by the voters, Spokane Valley Fire Department will be authorized to levy a maintenance and operations excess levy in the sum of $25,000,000.00 per year for four consecutive years beginning in 2023 which is approximately $1.08 per $1,000.00 of true and assessed valuation, to be collected in each succeeding year (2024 – 2027). The levy will replace the current excess levy which expires in 2023 and is in addition to the District’s regular tax levy. The District continues to experience increases in the cost of specialized equipment, personnel, training, and supplies required by various laws, codes, and standards. The levy will enable the District to maintain current staffing and service levels.


Pro and Con Committees

Spokane Valley Fire Department is placing before the voters on the February 14, 2023 ballot a proposition authorizing a maintenance and operations excess levy. The Fire District is accepting names of people interested in participating in voter pamphlet statement pro and con committees. Citizens interested in participating, please email LevyCommittee@spokanevalleyfire.com by December 7, 2022. SVFD will provide the committees with copies of instructions, specifications, and deadlines. The deadline for appointing the committees is December 16, 2022. Statements must be completed and submitted, by the Pro and Con Committees, to the Spokane County Elections Division by December 23, 2022, at 1:00pm.
