Ice Rescue

While there are numerous bodies of water within the Spokane Valley Fire Department boundaries that freeze in the winter, our primary risk for ice rescue incidents is Liberty Lake.  Because of the potential for individuals to fall through weak ice, we provide ice rescue training to our personnel yearly.  Crews stationed in Liberty Lake, Otis Orchards, Greenacres and Veradale along with our swift water rescue team typically respond on these types of incidents.  Individuals going into the water would be wearing dry suits for their protection and will typically be tethered by a rope to rescuers on the shore.  We have a rescue sled and kayaks we can deploy for broken ice to assist with the rescue.
