The Spokane Valley Fire Department has been providing pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for over the past 35 years. The Department responds to all emergencies that may befall an individual living in or passing through our jurisdiction. Department personnel respond from 10 different fixed locations with 7 of those providing Advanced Life Support (ALS). Over 80% of the Department’s calls for service are medical in nature and range from a broken finger to cardiac arrest. All shift personnel are trained in providing medical aid to the public in the form of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS).
Basic Life Support personnel provide medical aid which ranges from splinting a broken finger to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Advanced Life Support or paramedic personnel provide all the medical aid of BLS personnel and beyond, such as advanced airway management, drug administration, ECG rhythm interpretation, intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) access, etc.
Through the use of the Department’s Ongoing Training Evaluation Program (OTEP), our employees stay current with all their skills and classroom hours which are required by the Washington State Department of Health for recertification, which occurs every three years for each employee.
