Emergency Services

07 Dean 6.JPGEmergency Services within Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) is comprised of all activities associated with delivery of trained personnel and appropriate equipment to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

Ten fire stations are located at strategic locations within SVFD boundaries to provide response and mitigation services for the following types of emergencies:
141 career firefighters are assigned to one of three rotating shifts to provide 24/7 response capability from each of our 11 companies (eight engines, two ladders and one rescue) distributed within two battalions.  Minimum staffing is comprised of 3 firefighters per company, two on-duty battalion chiefs and a safety officer.

Delivery of advanced life support services are accomplished through staffing of seven companies with fire fighter / paramedics with response support by private ambulance transport providers.  All response personnel are certified emergency medical technicians (EMT), 40 certified as paramedics and 27 firefighters assigned technical rescue responsibilities.

SVFD participates in regional 9-1-1 and dispatch services managed by Spokane County and Spokane Fire respectively.  Technician level hazardous materials response services are provided by Spokane Fire.  Specialized regional services provided by SVFD include a mobile communications trailer capable of providing specialized equipment and personnel in disaster and / or significant incidents where normal communications capabilities are lacking.  Additionally, the Swift Water Rescue (SWR) Team works with Spokane Fire SWR to ensure coordinated rescue efforts occur in joint responses.  SVFD personnel participate in a regional Type III Incident Management Team capable of providing overhead support and coordination during significant emergency events throughout the State of Washington.  Automatic and / or mutual aid agreements exist with all surrounding Spokane County and Kootenai County (Idaho) fire agencies.

The Training Division staff is managed by a Battalion Chief and includes three Training Officers assigned to rotating 24 hour shifts.  During significant emergency incident responses, the Training Officers are assigned to the dedicated incident Safety Officer role.
